Mahendra’s was a junior supervisor in a construction company. His main job was to keep an eye on the activities at the work site. He was a bachelor and led a very simple life. One day ishwaran told the story of a tusker who escaped from the tiruber jard one day he wandered here and there and tore up creepers and broke branches The tusker reached a town and crushed all salestalls. People ran here and there. The streets were quite empty. The students hid themselves in the class rooms. At that time, ishwaran was a junior student. It was quite unaware of what happened to him, He took a cone and followed the elephant. ishwaram struck the elephant’s toerai/. It shivered from head to foot and fell lown. After two days, the tusker was taken a way by the mahout. After being asked how he did that, he told that it could all be possible through a Japanese art, karate or ju-jitsu.

Ishwaran narrated stories of ghosts and suspense everyday. Although Mahendra enjoyed the story but did not believe in all these things. one day he narrated about the place where the factory was located He told that it was located at a burial ground. He saw many human skulls lying scattered on the path. It had also seen the ghost of a woman at midnight matted. It had ratted hair and dried-up face. It also held a foetus in its arms.

Although, Manertra did rot believe in ghosts. But hearing the story of ishwaran, he got fright enal. ite called ishwaran bold. He told ishwaran that it way the figment of imagination. He told him to get examined. Later he went to take rest.

After the story, Mahendra glarved into the darkness to see if there was any movement one night he awakened up from his sleep by a moon. He resisted to look out but the wailing become louder. महेन्द्र निर्माण कंपनी में एक कनिष्ठ सुपरवाईजर था। उसका मुख्य काम कार्यस्थल पर होने वाली गतिविधियो का निरीक्षण करना था। वह एक कुँवारा था और सादगी वाली जिंदगी जीता था। काम के लिए उसे एक जगह से दूसरे जगह जाना पड़ता था। ऐसा वह कंपनी के निर्देशों के अनुसार करता था। लेकिन वह स्वयं को सभी परिस्थितियों में ढाल लेता था।

ईश्वरन महेन्दु का रसोइया था। वह महेन्द्र के काम पर जाने के बाद ईश्वरन उसके कपड़े साफ करता था। इसके अलावा घरेलू कार्मों को भी अंजाम देता था। लेकिन ईश्वरन में कुछ विशेष गुण थे। वह एक अच्छा कथाकार था। वह छोटी सी घटना को भी आश्चर्च और विस्सय के साथ विस्तारपूर्वक वर्णन करता था । वह कल्पनाकार था। उसकी कहानियों मे। सनसनीखेज प्रभाव था।

एक दिन ईश्वरन ने एक हाथी की कहानी सुनाई जो इमारती लकड़ी के स्थान से भाग निकला। वह इधर-उधर घूमा, बेलें उखाड़ दी तथा टहनियो तोड़ डाली। हाथी शहेर पहुँचकर दुकानो को क्षत-विक्षत कर दिया। लोग इधर-उधर भागने लगे। गलियाँ सुमसान पड़ी थी। स्कूली छात्र कक्षा के अंदर छिपे रहे। इस समय, ईश्वरन एक जूनियर छात्र था । वह बाहर हो रही घटनाओं से बिल्कल अनभिज्ञ था। ईश्वरन ने एक बेंत ली और हाथी के अंगूठे के निशान पर मारा । वह सर से पेर तक कांपने लगा और जमीन पर गिरव गाया। दो दिनो के बाद हाथी को महावत ले गाया। जब उससे पूछा गया कि यह कैसे संभव हुआ उसने कहा कि यह जापानी कलावाजी कराटे या जू-जित्सू के काराण संभव हो पाया।

प्रायेकदिन ईश्वर भूत और प्रेत की कहानियाँ सुनाया करता था। हाँलाकी महेन्द्र कहानियों का आनंद लेता था। लेकिन उसे भुत-प्रेत में विश्वास नही था। एक दिन उसने उस जगह का वर्णन किया जहाँ पर महेन्द्र की फैक्ट्री थी। उसने कहा कि यह कभी कब्रिस्तान हुआ करता था। उसने रास्ते में अनेको नर कंकाल बिखरे पड़े हुए देखे थे उसने आधी रात को एक भूत भी देखा था। जिसके बाल उलजे हुए और चेहरा सुखा पड़ा था। उसके हाथों में एक भ्रूण था ।

हालाँकि महेन्द्र भूत-प्रेत में विश्वास नही करना था। लेकिन ईश्वरन की भूत वाली कहानी सुनकर उसे डर लगने लगा। उसने ईश्वरन को साहसी कह उसने ईश्वरन को कहा कि यह उसके कलपन्य की उड़ान है। उसने उसे चिकित्सकीय सलाह की भी बात कही। उसके बाद वह सोने चला गया।

कहानी सुनने के बाद महेन्द्र ने झाक्कर देखा कि वहाँ कोई आवाजा आ रही है। अचानक उसकी नींद कराहट से खुली। उसने स्वयं को बाहर देखने से रोका लेकिन रोने की आवाज तेज होने लगी। उसने एक घुंघली अकृति देखी जो बंडल पकड़ रखा था। उसके शरीर से पसीना निकल रहा था। बाद में वह हांफने लगा। थोड़े ही समय में उसने सोचा कि यह उसके अचेतन मन की कोई चाल हो सकती है।

हमेशा की तरहा सुबह में महेन्द्र कार्यालय जाने के लिए तैयार हुआ ईश्वरन उसके पास आया और भूत ही कहानी सुनाई। महेन्द्र ने कहा उसके स्वयं भी पिछली रात एक भूत की आवाज सुनी है। उसका शरीर शिथिल पड़ गया। उसने कार्यालय जाकर अपने कागजात जमा करदिए । उसके यह कसम भी खाई कि वह उस जगह को छोड़ देगा जहाँ भूत निवास करते हो ।
