A notice is a short piece of writing. It is factual and formal in nature. It is meant for a group of persons or the general public. It is generally displayed on a noticeboard. A notice is written to provide information about an event, ceremony, invitation, warning, etc.

नोटिस (सूचना) लेखन का एक संक्षिप्त रूप है। यह तथ्यात्मक व औपचारिक होता है। यह व्यक्तियों के समूह या आम जनता को जानकारी देने के लिए लिखा जाता है। इसे सामान्यतः सूचना बोर्ड पर लिखते हैं। नोटिस को किसी घटना, कार्यक्रम, समारोह, निमंत्रण, चेतावनी आदि के संदर्भ में जानकारी देने के लिए लिखा जाता है।

Main Features of a Notice (एक नोटिस की प्रमुख विशेषताएँ):
1. It should be written in brief and to the point.
यह संक्षेप में लिखा जाना चाहिये और प्रासंगिक होना चाहिए।
2. It should be attractive.
यह आकर्षक होना चाहिए।
3. It should be written in the third person.
यह third person (अन्य पुरुष सर्वनाम) में लिखा होना चाहिए।
4. The date should be written before the heading either on the left or right side in the notice box.
दिनांक को Heading से पहले दायीं या बायीं ओर नोटिस बॉक्स में लिखा जाना चाहिए।
5. An appropriate heading must be given before the content / main body.
Content / main body से पहले एक उपयुक्त heading दिया जाना चाहिए।
6. There is no need to use complimentary words.
Complimentary words लिखने की कोई आवश्यकता नहीं होती है।
7. There must be a signature of an issuing authority with his designation. It should be on the left side.
नोटिस जारी करने वाले व्यक्ति के हस्ताक्षर उसके पद नाम सहित अवश्य होने चाहिए। यह बायीं ओर लिखा होना चाहिए।
8. It should be written in formal and simple language.
इसे सरल एवं औपचारिक भाषा में लिखना चाहिए।
9. Enclose the notice in a box.
पूरे notice के चारों ओर लाइन खींचकर एक Box बना दें।

Some Important Points:
(A) While writing a notice about a meeting, we must observe the following points-
‘मीटिंग के लिए Notice लिखते समय हमें निम्न बातों का ध्यान रखना चाहिए-
(i) Date (दिनांक)
(ii) Time (समय)
(iii) Venue (स्थान)
(iv) Who are to attend (कौन-कौन शामिल होगें)
(v) Agenda (कार्यसूची)
(vi) Chief guest/Chairperson (if any)
(vii) Contact address, person, etc. (सम्पर्क का पता, व्यक्ति इत्यादि)।

(B) While writing a notice about an event, we must observe the following points:
किसी घटना के बारे में Notice लिखते समय हमें निम्न बातों का ध्यान रखना चाहिए।
(i) Name of the event (घटना का नाम)
(ii) Objective (उद्देश्य)
(iii) Venue (स्थान)
(iv) Date (दिनांक)
(v) Time (समय)
(vi) Eligibility (पात्रता)
(vii) Contact address, Person, etc.(सम्पर्क का पता, व्यक्ति इत्यादि)।

(C) While writing a notice about Tours/Fairs/Exhibitions/Camps, etc., we must observe the following point:
यात्राओं / मेलों/ प्रदशर्नियों/ केम्पों इत्यादि के Notice लिखते समय हमें निम्न बातों का ध्यान रखना चाहिए
(i) Name and Nature (नाम व प्रकृति)
(ii) Date / Time / Duration (दिनांक / समय / अवधि)
(iii) Venue (स्थान)
(iv) Charges / Entry fee (चार्ज / प्रवेश शुल्क)
(v) Special Instruction, if any (विशेष निर्देश यदि कोई हो)
(vi) Contact person, address, etc. (सम्पर्क व्यक्ति, पता इत्यादि)

Example 1.
As the Games Secretary of the Students’ Council, you are to select a school cricket team to take part in the district level tournament. Draft a notice in not more than 50 words for the school noticeboard inviting students for selection as players and informing them about the match.
