आपकी पाठ्यपुस्तक में ‘Be’ क्रिया का वर्णन दिया है। ‘Be’ का प्रयोग वाक्य में Helping Verb तथा Main Verb दोनों ही रूपों में किया जाता है। ‘Be’ क्रिया की Forms निम्न प्रकार होती हैं

Past Tense में।

समस्त एकवचन कर्ताओं के लिए ‘was’ का प्रयोग होता है। I के साथ ‘was’ का प्रयोग होता है। समस्त बहुवचन कर्ताओं के लिए ‘were’ का प्रयोग होता है। You के साथ were का प्रयोग होता है।

Future Tense में

I तथा We के साथ shall be का प्रयोग होता है। | शेष सभी कर्ताओं के साथ will be का प्रयोग होता है।

उदाहरण

Present

1. Ram is a good boy.
2. We are students.
3. I am a good player.
4. They are my friends.
5. You are a good singer.

Past

1. Ram was my brother.
2. It was a good news.
3. I was a good player.
4. They were poor.
5. You were absent yesterday.

Future

1. We shall be busy then.
2. They will be there.
3. I shall be happy.
4. You will be angry.

उक्त सभी वाक्यों में ‘be’ का प्रयोग Linking Verb के रूप में हुआ है। Introductory It’ और ‘There’ वाले वाक्यों में भी ‘be’ का प्रयोग Linking Verb के रूप में ही होता है। जैसे

1. There is a snake in the room.
2. It is Sunday today.
3. It is seven.
4. It is very hot today.

‘Be’ के प्रयोग

1. किसी वस्तु का अस्तित्व बताने के लिए या किसी व्यक्ति का वस्तु के विषय में जानकारी प्रदान करने के लिए, जैसे
1. Mohan is a doctor. Meera is beautiful.

2. शारीरिक या मानसिक स्थिति बताने के लिए
I am angry. He was calm.

3. उम्र बताने के लिए
How old are you? I am ten years old.

4. आकार या वजन बताने के लिए
How tall are you ? I am 1.50 metres.

5. मूल्य बताने के लिए
How much is the melon. It is five rupees. ‘Be’ का प्रयोग auxiliary (Helping Verb) के रूप में

Present Continuous

Past Continuous Tenses में क्रमशः is/am/are तथा was/were का प्रयोग auxiliary के रूप में होता है। जैसे

1. They are playing football.
2. I am eating food.
3. We were reading a book.
4. Shyam was bathing in the river.

इसी प्रकार Passive Voice में भी Past Participle के साथ islam/are/was/were का प्रयोग fone GIC – Ravan was killed by Ram. You are taught by Mr Sharma. A bridge is being built over the river.
