Construct a 3 × 3 matrix whose elements are given by then find the transpose of A.
(i) aij = |i – 2j|
(ii) aij = (i+j)3/3
Solution:
(i) aij = |i – 2j|
a11 = |1 – 2 × 1| = |1 – 2| = |-1| = 1
a12 = |1 – 2 × 2| = |1 – 4| = |-3| = 3
a13 = |1 – 2 × 3| = |1 – 6| = |-5| = 5
a21 = |2 – 2 × 1| = |2 – 2| = 0
a22 = |2 – 2 × 2| = |2 – 4| = |-2| = 2
a23 = |2 – 2 × 3| = |2 – 6| = |-4| = 4
a31 = |3 – 2 × 1| = |3 – 2| = |1| = 1
a32 = |3 – 2 × 2| = |3 – 4| = |-1| = 1
a33 = |3 – 2 × 3| = |3 – 6| = |-3| = 3
