Prashant’s Visit To Ersama
Prashant visited Ersama, a small coastal town of odisha on oct 27, 1999 This town is at a distance of about 18 km from his home town, kalikuda. He had gone there to stay with his friend for one day.
Coming of Storm
In the very evening, a dark and menacing storm came there. Heavy rains started. Trees were uprooted waters entered into the friend’s house. Wind blew at the speed of 360 km/hour.
Huge Destruction Caused
It caused huge destruction. Everything was destroy there. A number of people and houses washed away. Prashant and his friend’s family had taken refuge on the roof. It was really a horrible scene that prashant ever saw in his life. Prashant and his friend’s family received a great shock to see the destruction caused by super cyclone. Dead animals and human bodies floated everywhere. Several tree had fallen. The tender coconuts kept them alive for a few days.
Prashant Returns To His Village
After a few days. Prashant decided to return to his village. Although the family of his friend stopped him from returning to his village. Taking a strong stick, he started on his eighteenKilometre journey to his village. He waded through water. He found two friends of his uncle on the way. To move ahead, they had to push away numerous dead bodies of human beings and animals. Prashant thought that nobody of his family would have remained alive Ultimately, Prashant reached to his village. Nothing remained in the house of Prashant went to the Red Cross shelter to look for his family there. They were quite safe.
Prashant Now Becomes The Leader Of His Village
All the houses had been washed away. Around 2500 people had taken shelter in the Red cross. He became a leader of the people. He sent a few people to the merchant to take rice. They cooked rice and provided food to everyone. He also cleaned the shelter and the garbage around the surrounding.
Food From Helicopter
A military helicopter dropped some food packets on the fifth day. Prashant told the group to put empty utensils on their stomachs. It was just a signal to communicate the helicopter that they had not got the food packets. They were too hungry. Ultimately, they got food.
Prashant As A Social Worker
Prashant become a social worker. worker. He brought the orphaned children and prepared a shelter for them. The women were told to look after them. He prepared the women to join the food-for-work programme started by an NGO. Volume trees were also deputed to help the widows. Orphans were also settled in their own community. Even after six months, people seek the help of prashant. Prashant really helped the orphaned, the widow, the children in the hour of grief.

प्रशांत की अरसामा की यात्राः
प्रशांत अरसामा के दोरे पर 27 अक्टूबर 1999 को त्र्याए जोकि ओडीशा का एक तछीय शहर है। यह शहर उसके घरेलू शहर कालीकूडा से 18 कि. मी. की दूरी पर है। एक दिन वह वहाँ पर अपने दोस्त से मिलने के लिए गया था।
ऑधी-तूफान का आना
एक शाम को वहाँ तेज का आँघी तूफान का आया। जोरो की वर्षा होने लगी। बड़े-बड़े पेड़ गिर पड़े। पानी उसके दोस्त के घर के अंदर प्रवेश कर गाया। हवा की रफ्तार 360 कि. मी. प्रकति घंटे की थी ।
काफी क्षति हुई
इस आँधी के कारण काफी क्षति हुई। सभी चीजें तहश – नहश हो गायी । बहुत सारे लोग और जानवर बह गए। प्रशांत और उसके दोस्त के परिवारों ने छत के ऊपर शरण ली। बड़ा ही भयंकर दृश्य था जो कि प्रशांत ने अपने जीवन में देखा था। इस तूफान के कारण आयी तबाही से प्रशांत और उसके दोस्त के परिवार को बहुत सदमा में नजर आ रहे थे। अनेक वृक्ष गिर गए नाजूक नारियल को खाकर वे बहुत दिनो तक जिंदा रहे।
प्रशांत अपने गाँव वापस लौटता है
कुछ दिनो के पश्चात, प्रशांत ने अपना घर लौटने का निश्चय किया। हालाँ कि उसके दोस्त के परिवार वालो के उसे घर लौटने से मना किया। एक बड़ा तथा मजबूत उंडा लेकर वह 18 कि. मी. की यात्रा पर अपने घर के लिए निकल पड़ा। वह पानी बीच से होकर आया। प्रशांत यह सोचकर रोया कि उसके परिवार में कोई भी जीवित नहीं बचा होगा इसीलिए वह रैड-क्रॉस की शरणस्थली मे अपने परिवार को देखने के लिए चला गया। प्रशांत का परिवार वहाँ पर था ।
प्रशांत अब अपने गाँव का मुखिया बन जाता है 
सभी घर बह चुके थे। करीब 2500 ने रेड कॉस में शरण ली थी। वह लोगो का नेता बन गाया। उसने कुछ लोगो को व्यापारी के पास चावल लेने के लिए भेजा। उन्हो ने चावल बनाया और सभी लोगो को खिलाया। उसने शरण स्थल और आस-पास की गंदगी को भी साफ किया।
हेलीकॉप्टर द्वारा भोजन दिया जाना
पाँचवे दिना सेना के हेलीकॉप्टर ने खाने के कुछ पैकेट नीचे गिराए । प्रशांत ने समूह के लोगो को कहा कि वे खाली बर्तन अपने पेट पर रखे। यह हेलीकॉप्टर को सिर्फ इंगित कर के लिए था कि उन्हें खाने के पैकेट नहीं मिले है। वे लोग बहुत भूखे थे। अंत में उन्हें भेजन मिला।
प्रशांत एक समाज सेवक के रूप में
प्रशांत एक समाज सेवक बन गाया। उसने अनाथ बच्चो को एक किया और उसके लिए रहने की व्यवस्था की । औरतो को दन्हे देखने के लिए कहा गया। उसने औरतो को एक गौर सरकारी संस्थान (NGO) द्वारा शुरू किए गए काम के लिए प्रोगाम में शामिल होने के लिए कहा। विघवाओं की देखभाल के लिए स्वयंसेवकों को लगाया गाया। अमाथो को उनके समूह के साथ लागा दिया गाया 6 महीन के बाद भी लोगा प्रशांत की मदद लेते है। सचमुच में प्रशांत ने दुख के समय में अनाथो, विघसवाओं और बच्चो की सहायता की।

His team cleaned the shtter and also the garbage around the surrounding. Helicopters also dropped food pockets for the people. He put the orphaned children under the poly-there rooof. He put all the orphed, wido etc at safe place. This way he did a lot to the people. .

Ans. Prashant was the main hero. He mobilised every people of the community to cooperate and help one another. Numerous children of the comunity lost their parents. They become orphan. Prashant brought them together and built a poly theme shatter for them. Women were told to look after them. Men were to wok after these people. Thy were deputed to provide them food and other material. Women started working in the ‘food for work’ programme started by an NGO. This way, people of the community helped another.
Q.4. Why do prashant and other volunteers resist the plan to set up institutions for orphans and widows?. What alternatives do they consider?.
Ans. Prasshant and other volunteers resisted the plan to set up institutions for orphans and widow because they feel that the children would not get affection and warmth and widows will feel loneliness. It will be a hindrance for their proper growth. So, prashant thought that the orphans and widows should be resettled in their own community.
Q.5. Do you think prashant is a good leader? Do you think young people can get together to help people during natural calamities
Ans. of course, Prashant is a good leader. He had all the skills of a good leader. He had the capability to motivate and inspire people to do something. The way he handles the situation during super cyclone is really praiseworthy. Young people can surely get together. They can help people a lot during natural calamities as prashant did

Q.1. Tack about the preparedness of the community for a natural disaster. (You can tack about evacuation plans and rehabilitation, Permanent safe shatters, warning systems, relief efforts, building materials to with stand cyclone/ flood/ earthquake i.e., safe housing, People’ organisation of their own rescue, the survival instinct etc. Ans. It is a purely classroom based activity. Students should prepare it discussing their teachers. For preparedness of fthe community for a natural disaster, follwing aspects must be taken into account
(i) Arrangement of food, shelter, clothes and other items must be provided to the victims on spot.
(ii) NGO’s and other and other agencies should be involved.
(iii) Warning signals and latest update from time to time must be provided. Radio and television must give them up-to-dote information.
(iv) Proper medical care should be provided to them.
(v) Their rehabilitation must be done in proper way.
(vi) Social help is should also be provided
