Way to write a Paragraph (पैराग्राफ लिखने का ढंग )
एक paragraph केवल एक ही विचार प्रकट करता है। परीक्षा में . दिए गए प्रश्न के संकेत विस्तृत होते हैं। उन संकेतों से paragraph लिखने के लिए-
(i) संकेतों को बार-बार पढ़ना चाहिए ताकि विषय आपकी समझ में भली-भाँति आ जाए।
(ii) संकेतों को क्रमबद्ध करके लिखना शुरू करना चाहिए।
(iii) संकेतों को वाक्यों में डालते जाना चाहिए । Paragraph का पहला और अन्तिम वाक्य theme की पुष्टि करने वाला होना चाहिए।
(iv) एक paragraph में केवल पूछे गए विचार ही व्यक्त कीजिए।

Ans. How to Quit Chewing of Tobacco
To stop chewing to tobacco one must take a positive decision to quit. One should develop a strong will power. One must be fully convinced about the reasons to quit. Reinforce this decision in the light of the information on the hazards of tobacco. Throw away all the tobacco at once; and try to spend as much time as possible with the people and places where you generally don’t chewing of tobacco. If there is an urge for chewing tobacco indulge an activity which will make the person forget tobacco. Every passing day without tobacco is a triumph against the evil called tobacco. 1

For many years, trees have provided people with food, fibres and medicine. Through out history, people have used wood to make tools, construct buildings and create works of art. Living trees are as valuable to human kind as are the products because they help conserve natural resources. Trees help conserve soil and water. In open country, trees act as wind breakes and keep the wind from blowing away top soil. Their roots prevent soil from being washed away by heavy rains. Tree roots also help store water in the ground. Forests also provide shelter for wild life and recreation areas for people who want to enjoy holidays.

Ans. Education in India
Ours is a nation of about 1000 million population. Yet we don’t make many inventions each year. The political set up in our country has made us a non-thinking generation. It is all due to the faulty educational set up in our country. Too much has been said about our educational system; and too many experts have discussed its main problems. How many solutions have we find out? Nothing. We discuss the problems which remain unsolved. Teaching in India is less practical oriented. Teachers make children aware of the facts only at the time of examinations. As a results every year we produce lakhs and lakhs of memory monsters. They are asked to follow rules and obey instructions. The end result is that one student is a photo-copy of another with no identity and individuality.

Noise can affect our communication, our capacity for hearing and our health and behaviour. If a person is exposed to loud noises for long periods, there may be significant permanent loss Most of hearing. investigations have shown that loud noises can create anxiety and stress; and in extreme cases, fright. The psychologists tell us that when the noise level goes up, work efficiency goes down. Motor vehicles, loud speakers, factories, trucks, buses, scooters and mikes etc are mainly responsible for noise pollution in big cities. It is high time that the Government took some measures to control this increasing menace which is responsible for many sicknesses.

I. PERSONS

1. My Grandmother

My grandmother is a genteel woman with a heart full of love and affection. She is the only woman in my family who has the patience to listen to my idle talk for hours. When I get stuck in a difficult situation she guides me. She is very religious. She does not miss to go to temple early in the morning. Sometimes I too accompany her to temple. I see sparkles in her eyes as she enters the temple. Then mentally she drifts into spiritual world. I love my grandmother very much. May she live long!

2. An Ideal Student

An ideal student not only excels in his studies but makes a mark in his life also. He sets an example for others to follow. The life of an ideal student is a continuous process of hard labour and deep learning. He takes keen interest in his studies. He takes part in games and sports also. He leads a noble life. His ideals are high. He obeys and respects his teachers, parents and elders. He is social among his companions. He is helpful and sympathetic. All love an ideal student. I wish to follow his foot-prints.

3. A Quarrelsome Neighbour

My next door neighbour is Mrs Pal. She is a short-tempered lady. She does not lose any opportunity to bring her aggressive nature in the open. She is always on the look-out for any small incident in which she can aptly use her quarrelsome abilities. No one in our entire neighbourhood is willing to talk to her. They avoid her as much as they can. She is ready to quarrel at the least provocation. She has to lead a lonely and companionless life. A quarrelsome neighbour is a curse for all.

4. The Person I Like Most

I like Swami Ramdev most. He lives in Divya Yog Mandir, Kripalu Ashram Bagh, Kankhal (Hardwar). He is not my relative. He is not my friend. I never had an opportunity to meet him personally. I am impressed by his qualities and good deeds. I visited him on the TV only. I am impressed by his selfless devotion for the good of humanity. He demonstrates Yoga to the public. And the public are benefitted by it a great deal. His sincere efforts and genuine feelings for humanity are a virtue. He is a noble soul.

5. The Company I Enjoy Most

I enjoy the company of my younger sister most. She is a great fun to be with, always upto her silly pranks and nonsense talks. Though we argue a lot and at times even fight with each other yet we prefer to be in each other’s company. She seems to have endless little problems which I like to listen to. I’ I give her the best possible sisterly advice. We may not always agree with each other. But once we step out of the house, our love and protective attitude towards each other grow tenfold.

II. IF I WERE

6. If I Were the Principal of My School

If I were the principal of my school, I would enjoy the authority of a principal. I would not like to be a dictator. But I would like to be respected as the head of an educational institution. I would try my best to maintain discipline in the school. I would encourage students to be honest and sincere. As the Principal of my school I would like to act, as a custodian of the property and the money of the institution. I would like to set an ideal example of being fair and just amongst the students.

7. If I Were the Headboy of My School

As the headboy of my school I would be holding an important but responsible position. It would be a great privilege for me to represent my school at all important functions and events. I would maintain and protect the good reputation of my school. I would ensure discipline among students. I would pioneer all the initiatives in such a way as would ensure pride to my Principal, teachers and fellow students.

8. If I Were a Doctor

A doctor’s profession is a noble one. They are capable to cure and treat the sick people. Thus they gain the goodwill of many people. But today very few doctors are willing to go to villages. If I were a doctor, it would be my prime aim to improve the conditions of healthy living for the villagers. My aim would be to provide for them maximum of medical facilities so that they did not have to bear their misery and suffering silently.

9. If I Were a Teacher

Teachers are the builders of the nation. If I were a teacher, I would profess to be an ideal teacher. I would work to ensure all round development of my students-bodily, mentally, spiritually and socially. I would work in such a way that the students began to trust me. 10. Pleasures of Watching Television

Television has become the best-loved means of entertainment, information and communication today. It is the most acceptable and popular means. Television has become a very important part of our daily life. It covers various and varied spheres. We watch national and international events while relaxing comfortably in our homes. After a day’s hard work, most people find nothing more relaxing than sitting in front of their television set. With the magic remote they can switch over to different satellite channels and see almost the whole world.

11. Life Without a Television

Lately the television has assumed a place of great importance in our daily life. Most of us have become helpless victim of the idiot-box. It will therefore be totally impossible to imagine our life without television. The advent of the satellite TV has made the world look like a small place. It brings live events taking place around the world, right to our home. We would therefore feel entirely cut off from the rest of the world if there were no television.

12. The Film I Enjoyed Most

Lately I saw the film ‘Lagaan’ which I enjoyed the most. The whole idea and concept of the film was very unusual and new. It was packed up by great performances. It had an excellent screenplay. Indeed it was one of the best films made in India. It was indeed not surprising that this film had been nominated for the prestigious Oscar Awards in the ‘Best Foreign Film’s Category’. A ‘must watch’ for every cinema’ lover.

13. My Favourite Television Serial

I have seen a number of serials on the television. One of my favourite serials is the serial ‘Small Wonder’ telecast on the Star Plus Network. ‘Small Wonder’ has a highly imaginative plot. The plot revolves around a little girl who is a robot displaying. human emotions and sentiments. This serial provides a fresh and pleasant change from other serials: ‘Small Wonder’ is a very popular serial. It enjoys a large viewership consisting of both children and adults.

IV. VISITS

14. A Visit to a Holy Place

This summer vacation I had the pleasure of visiting Hardwar with my family. I was extremely touched by the religious fervour and deep faith of the people for Hardwar. It was a great feeling indeed to bathe in the flowing cool water of the River Ganga. It is Har Ki Paudi where people take a dip in the sacred and flowing waters of the holy Ganga. The air echoes melodious sounds of hymns, chanting and prayer. We worshipped the Ganga offering her flowers, coconut and lighted earthen lamp.

15. A Visit to a Historical Place

I got an opportunity to visit the Taj Mahal in Dussehra holidays. The Taj Mahal is one of the wonders of the world. It is indeed a very beautiful monument. It was built by Emperor Shahjahan in the memory of his beloved Queen Mumtaz Mahal. It is situated on the bank of the river Yamuna. The Taj is unique work of architecture. It was made of white marble. When we entered the campus, we saw the whole place crowded by tourists. We enjoyed its beauty to our heart’s content. It is indeed a dream in marble.

16. Your Visit to a Hill Station

I had an opportunity to visit Mussoorie in my last summer vacation. I accompanied my father to Mussoorie and stayed there for a week. We visited the Gun Hill and Lal Tibba. We enjoyed the rope way trolley. One day in the morning we went to see the Kempty Fall. It presented a beautiful sight. We had to wear sweater in the morning and in the evening. We had a walk on the library road in the evening. We saw many prestigious institutes there. Our visit proved very beneficial.

17. A School Picnic

Last Sunday, I went to Spring Dale for a picnic with my school mates. Our science teacher guided us. She took us around the place. She made us familiar with different plants and flowers that grew there. The dale was blooming with different varieties of roses, sunflowers, hibiscus, pansies and dahlias. The row of white Lilies carried me to a dreamland. There was an artificial lake with swans and ducks in it. Under a shady tree we shared the delicious food that each one of us had brought. Then we returned home by the school bus.

V. SCENES

18. A Scene Inside a Classroom Without a Teacher

When the cat is away, mice play. Utter disorder and confusion prevails in a classroom without a teacher. Every student is free to do what he pleases to do. At times he forgets the fact that he is sitting in his classroom. Forgetting of the outside world, most of the students play, gossip and chat freely. Sometimes there is a confused assemblage of the noise of students actually running about in the classroom, full of brisk activity. These scenes continue unabated till the teacher visits the class.

19. The Scene at a Railway Platform

You can have a momentary view of a mini world at the railway platform. The railway platform presents a scene of endless activity, hustle and bustle. Everybody seems to be moving endlessly here. Trains and people on the platform keep arriving and leaving for their different destinations. The hawkers and vendors shout their wares at the top of their voice. The coolies seem to be a special class of persons. Their uniform tells you that you can take their help at once. They are indeed the necessary persons at the platform.

20. An Evening in a Park

Evening is the best time to be in a park. People of all age-groups can be seen there. Children play a variety of games. Middle aged and old people just sit on the bench to relax, talk and discuss different issues. Ice-cream vendors and Candy sellers also have a busy time. Children gather around their carts to savour the delights they sell. The cool evening breeze gives a soothing effect to our body. Chirping of the birds charms our ears. Fragrance of fresh flowers soothes our nose. Lush green grass attracts our eyes if we spend our evening in a park.

VI. CELEBRATIONS

21. How I Celebrated My Birthday

It was my fifteenth birthday. I celebrated it in a simple way, and not in a traditional way. When I woke up on my birthday, all members of my family wished me a Happy Birthday in the most affectionate way, as if I were a semi-god. Then a ‘havan’ ceremony was held. I participated in it along with my family. Finally, my grandmother took us to a temple where we offered food and clothes to the needy. I could see my grandmother’s eyes beaming with tears of joy. My grandmother organized a small party for me in the evening.

22. Diwali Celebrations at My Home

The festival of Diwali is very eagerly awaited by all members of my family. This is so because we celebrate Diwali with great joy and cheer. We all wear new clothes on this day. We spread strings of small electric bulbs on our house. Sweet dishes are prepared by the ladies of our house. We perform Lakshmi pooja in the evening. Then we light candles and the strings of the electric bulbs spread on our house. We distribute sweets, kheel and batashe among our friends and relatives. Children display fireworks.

23. Dussehra Celebrations in My Colony

Dussehra is the festival which celebrates the victory of good over evil. This year we celebrate the Dussehra festival in our colony with this main motive in our minds. Huge effigies of Ravana, Kumbhkarana and Meghnad filled with crackers were burnt in the vast park of our colony. After the destruction of the evil forces, an atmosphere of joyousness filled the spectators. People made a resolution in their own minds to kill evil within themselves.

24. A Wedding That I have Seen

The marriage ceremony in a Hindu family is a complex and long affair. Last year my elder brother got married. Our family reached the bride’s place around 8 p.m. We were greeted by various members of their family. Then came the bride dressed expensively and beautifully. The bride and the groom garlanded each other before the starting of the actual ceremony. Then they stood at the finely decorated altar. The priest chanted hymns. The bride and the groom went around the sacred fire lit at the altar. Thus the wedding was completed with due rituals.

VII. DAYS

25. The Most Memorable Day of My Life

The most memorable day of my life is the day on which I got my Junior High School result. To my utmost pleasure and surprise my name was declared among the ten toppers in the district. My joy knew no bounds. I revelled and rejoiced on this wonderful news. I was quite sure that I had done all my papers well and would get a good percentage but I had never expected to be among the top ten scorers at the Board level. I had got the second position. I was very happy and satisfied that day.

26. A Day Without Water

Our locality had no water yesterday. It seemed impossible to pass the day. All the taps of the houses in our locality went dry. There was no water at all. All the residents could do nothing except wait restlessly and eagarly for the water. Till noon, the activity of our house literally came to a standstill as there was not enough water left even for the daily chores in the kitchen and bathroom. In the late evening when water started from the day long dry taps, we all heaved a sigh of relief.

27. The Night Before the Examination

We are most anxious and restless on the night before the examination. We can neither sleep nor concentrate on anything. We feel a frightful sense which upsets us. But we should remember that unnecessary anxiety does not lead us to anything positive. We should not lose heart. We should think sensibly. We should get a few hours of valuable sleep so that we can feel free and active on the day of the examination.

28. A Rainy Day

A rainy day may prove to be a boon or a bane. July 26, 2007 brought a heavy rainfall in New Tehri. It rained heavily the whole day with the result that low areas were drowned. There was water everywhere. The transformers got badly damaged. There was no electricity in the most parts of the city. The ground floor on the low-lying lands was completely immersed in water. Some areas had neck-deep water. People left their residences because they were under water. People were not able to protect them under the umbrellas. Hundreds of people died that day. The rainy day proved to be a doomsday.

VIII. SOCIAL ISSUES

29. Need for Moral Education in Schools

As the knowledge of science increases, moral value decreases. The world is moving fast towards materialism. The need of the present time is to keep our moral values alive. Moral education given to children in school can prove to be the sole saving grace. School education provides the basis of character formation. Moral education builds up the essential virtues and qualities. They can help the children become good human beings.

30. Pollution

Pollution is a major danger. It is a warning to our environment today. It is indeed very unfortunate that the air we inhale and the water we drink is polluted. Very large increase in population is the root cause of this pollution. Man selfishly exploits nature. He intervenes in nature’s recycling process. We cannot see the stars in the sky in big cities due to pollution. It is high time we realized that increasing pollution can only lead to destruction.

31. The Pleasures of Living at a Hill Station

The atmosphere of a hill station is pure, clean and calm. It makes living there a source of great pleasure. Those who live at the hill stations are safe from noise and crowd. They are away from the difficult and fast moving life of the cities. Hill stations are not overpopulated and polluted. People of hills are simple and honest. They are kind people. They still follow the old values of life. It is wonderful to live at a hill station. They are the favourite of nature and enjoy Nature’s blessings.

32. Morning Assembly in My School

Our school begins with the morning assembly. The whole school gets together to say our morning prayers. The students do their warming up exercise to prepare themselves for the day. Our Principal gives a most interesting lecture on moral education. He/she also gives us other relevant news concerning the activities and achievement of our school. At times, practical demonstrations on Yoga are also held. They keep us physically and mentally fit. The morning assembly of my school is interesting and instructing.

33. Value of Trees in Our Life

Trees are essential for human survival. They maintain the ecological balance in nature. During the day, trees inhale carbon dioxide from the air and exhale oxygen. Trees provide relief from the scorching heat by providing shade to birds, animals and men. Certain birds make their nests in the branches of trees. They prevent soil erosion. They help in cleaning the atmosphere of pollution. Trees provide us with basic necessities of life. They provide us with timber and fuel.

34. An Earthquake

An earthquake is always followed by destruction and desolation. Earthquakes are caused due to volcanic eruption in the earth. During an earthquake, cemented brick buildings fall like plastic models. Trees and street lamps are uprooted. High buildings fall like tumbling blocks. A lot of damage is caused to life and property. Many people become homeless. Many get serious injuries and some lose their lives. People of earthquake affected areas find it very difficult to start life afresh.

Newspapers have become an essential part of our daily life. The first thing a person looks for in the morning is a newspaper. We cannot imagine life without newspaper. I love my country for its ‘unity in diversity’. It is one of the most excellent feature of my country. India is a large country with many languages, several faiths and religions. Ours is the largest democracy in the world. I am proud of the fact that I am an Indian. I love my country above everything.

A one-day cricket match has much importance today. Earlier Test Matches of five-day duration were played and the probable result was a draw. A one-day cricket match lasts for only 9-10 hours. It is one of the most exciting and thrilling games. In a one-day cricket match it has become compulsory to have a winning and a losing team. Tension and anxiety grips the players as well as the spectators. It is only after the last ball is bowled that one can decide the final result of the match.

38. Importance of Games and Sports

‘All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.’ Games are an important part of student life. Games are a source of entertainment. They keep us healthy. They develop team-spirit in us. They create in us a spirit of discipline. While playing the games, we have to follow the rules of the game. After mental work, physical exercise is essential. It is unfortunate the children watch matches, but do not take part in games. They should realize the value of games.

39. The Game I Like Most

Of all games, I like tennis most. Tennis is an attractive and delightful game. The rich and fashionable people like to play it. It is a favourite game of the cultured and the refined fellows. I have reasons why I like tennis most. First, tennis is not violent as hockey, football or cricket. Second, tennis is not risky like other games. It is a safe game. Lastly, I derive more pleasure and satisfaction from playing tennis than I do from any other game. So it is the game I like most to play.

Regular morning walk ensures a fit, healthy and lively life. As we enhale fresh air, which is the gift of Nature. Morning walk fills us with a new kind of energy and zest. It helps us to live an active and carefree life. The morning atmosphere helps us to inhale fresh oxygen. Fresh oxygen is essential for healthy lungs. We find the atmosphere in the morning calm and peaceful. It soothes our mind and heart. Keeping the importance of English language in view I have developed interest and disposition for English subject. I learn English so that I may become a man of English language and literature. I would like to join Cambridge University in England. I am therefore paving the way to reach my destination. To me, English is an interesting and exciting subject. I therefore like English most.

43. An Extremely Hot Day

This year the 21st June was the hottest day. The sun was shining as if it was emitting fire. The ‘loos’ added salt to the injury. It was too hot to go out. Veryfew persons could be seen on the roads. We were sweating from head to foot. Cold drinks were taken after short intervals. Nobody liked to have anything solid. The appetite was gone. Little babies were crying and weeping. There was no electricity. We heaved a sigh of relief when it became cloudy in the evening and the electricity was also restored.

44. What I Like to Read in a Newspaper

Newspaper in the modern times is the greatest source of information. It also contains items of various other interests. Every reader reads the columns of his interest. As for me, I am greatly interested in reading the news related to the socio-political developments in the national and international fields. I would also like to go through the sports page of the newspaper, that is also an area of my interest. I also love to read the editorial page.

45. My Hobby

Hobby is an occupation meant for one’s leisure time. We desire to escape from the dullness of our regular business and try to seek something which gives pleasure. I have a hobby for photography and doll making. I love to shoot natural scenery and the different modes of my near and dear ones by my camera. I send the snap-shots to magazines and participate in photographic competitions. I decorate my house with photos and the dolls that I make. I offer dolls to my friends as gifts on their birthdays.
