Pollution is one of the major problems of today. It threatens our environment. It is a hazard to our life. The air we inhale and the water we drink is polluted. The fruits and vegetables we eat are also polluted. Nature has been suffering for thoughtless human indiscrimination in its recycling process for a very long time.
8. Need to Ban Poly-bags
Poly-bags have hazardous effects to environment and even to the stray animals. Poly-bags are non-biodegradable. They therefore choke drains. They leech on to the soil and can also make the land barren. They can also kill the animals by choking them when they feed on scattered garbage on the roads and bins. The need of the hour is to totally ban the use of poly-bags. We should use environment-friendly paper bags.

9. A Visit to a Book Fair
One day I had a chance to visit a book fair in Sunder Bai Hall, behind Churchgate station in Mumbai. It was a unique opportunity to have books relating to almost all spheres of life under one roof. It seemed very difficult for me to pull myself out of the fair. I found the hall a store house of knowledge and wisdom. I made many rounds. Finally I bought an English Grammar.
10. An Evening in a Park
There is a public park near our house. One evening I went there. I saw people of different age-groups there. Children were playing a variety of games. Middle-aged and old people were sitting on the benches just to relax, talk and discuss different issues. Ice-cream vendors and Candy sellers were busy. Children had crowded their carts. I sat on the green grass to look all around.
11. Reaching My School Early
One morning I was the first student to reach my school. I put my books in my desk and came out in the premises. I roamed about the school premises freely. I observed the whole school. It was an opportunity to mix with the students of other classes. I made friends with them. We had the time for the criticism of our teachers and principal. Really it was a fun.

12. Spending of My Sundays
I look forward to Sunday after a busy week. I generally do many things on Sunday which I cannot do on the regular days. I clean my room thoroughly. I arrange my books and note-books in order. I sort out my pending work. Then I enjoy lunch with the family. We talk over our achievements during the week and chalk out programme for the coming week.
13. Memories of My Childhood
Childhood is the most memorable and glorious period of my life. It was a period of innocence and simplicity. When I recall the memories of my childhood, I am always thrilled with emotions and sentiments. Those feelings pass rather too soon. I wish I were a child again. Would I enjoy the warm affection and care of my parents.

November 14, the birthday of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India is celebrated all over India. On this occasion our school also celebrated the Children’s Day. We remembered ‘Chacha Nehru’ with sweet memories that he has left for the children of India. A cultural programme was arranged. A little boy wore the dress of Pt. Nehru and presided the function.
15. Morning Walk
A morning walk is the most ideal exercise. It helps us to keep fit and healthy. In the morning, the air is fresh. We inhale fresh oxygen which is very good for lungs. Atmosphere is calm in the morning. It soothes our mind and heart. The cool breeze, the chirping of birds, fragrance of fresh flowers and the green dew sprinkled grass soothe our senses.

16. The Film | Enjoyed Most
I saw many films. But I enjoyed the film ‘Jurassic Park’ most. This film offers us a unique chance of actually seeing an extinct species, dinosaurs. The dinosaurs once lived on our earth. When I saw the dinosaurs on the screen, I went on looking with awe and wonder at them. Indeed it was a wonderful film. Students should see such films. They give us valuable information and knowledge.
17. My Favourite TV Serial
My favourite TV serial is ‘Small Wonder’. It was telecast on the Star Plus Network. ‘Small Wonder’ has a very imginative plot. It revolves around a little girl. She is a robot. She shows humane emotions and sentiments. It is a fresh and pleasant serial. ‘Small Wonder’ is very popular serial. Children and adults view it with joy and interest.
VI. Celebrations
18. Holi Celebrations in My Colony
Holi is a unique festival in India. It is a great pleasure to sprinkle coloured water on those whom you love and respect. Early in the morning, the boys of our colony took position on different spots. They did not let any passer-by go scot free. Some of our friends came. from other colonies. We welcomed them with gulal. We enjoyed colouring one another’s face. We returned home at about 2 p.m. I had a bath. Then my mother served the delicious food made specially to celebrate Holi.
19. Dussehra Celebrations in My Colony
Dussehra is the festival which celebrates the victory of good over evil. This year we celebrate the Dussehra festival in our colony with this prime motive in our minds. Huge effigies of Ravana, Kumbhkarana and Meghnad filled with crackers were burnt in the vast park of our colony. After the destruction of the evil forces, an atmosphere of joyousness filled the spectators. People made a resolution in their own minds to kill evil within themselves.
VII. Days
20. A Day Before the Examination
A day before the examination is that which we decide to spend most methodically. On this day we decide to concentrate on the important topics. We intend to revise these topics thoroughly. But sometimes our intention is diverted on the unimportant topics. We think that these topics may be included in the paper. So the plan for using the day methodically goes down the drain. We get highly confused. It is a typical human behaviour on a day before the examination.
21. A Rainy Day
A rainy day may prove to be a boon or a bane. July 26, 2005 brought a deluge in New Tehri. It rained heavily the whole day with the result that low areas were drowned. There was water everywhere. The transformers got badly damaged. There was no electricity in the most parts of the city. The ground floor on the low-lying lands was completely immersed in water. Some areas had neck-deep water. People left their residence because they were under water. People were not able to protect them under the umbrellas. Hundreds of people died that day. The rainy day proved to be a doomsday.

22. The Pleasures of Living at a Hill Station
The atmosphere of a hill station is pure, clean and calm. It makes living there a source of great pleasure. Those who live at the hill stations are safe from noise and crowd. They are away from the hectic and fast moving life of the cities. Hill stations are not overpopulated and polluted. People of hills are simple and honest. They are hospitable people. They still follow the old values of life. It is wonderful to live at a hill station. They are the favourite of nature and enjoy Nature’s blessings.

An earthquake is always followed by destruction and devastation. Earthquakes are caused due to volcanic eruption in the earth. During an earthquake, cemented brick buildings fall like plastic models. Trees and street lamps are uprooted. Skyscrapers fall like tumbling blocks. A lot of damage is caused to life and property. Many people become homeless. Many get serious injuries and some lose their lives. People of earthquake affected areas find it very difficult to start. life afresh.

26. One-Day Cricket Match
A one-day cricket match has its unique importance today. Earlier Test Matches of five-day duration were played and the probable result was a draw. A one-day cricket match lasts for only 9-10 hours. It is one of the most exciting and thrilling games. In a one-day cricket match it has become imperative to have a winning and a losing team. Tension and anxiety grips the players as well as the spectators. It is only after the last ball is bowled that one can decide the final result of the match.

‘All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.’ Games are an important part of student life. Games are a source of entertainment. They keep up healthy. They develop team-spirit in us. They create in us a spirit of discipline. While playing the games, we have to follow the rules of the game. After mental work, physical exercise is essential. It is unfortunate the children watch matches, but do not take part in games. They should recognize the value of games.

Of all games, I like tennis best. Tennis is an attractive and delightful game. The well-to-do and fashionable people like to play it. It is a favourite game of the cultured and the refined. I have reasons why I like tennis most. First, tennis is not violent as hockey, football or cricket. Second, tennis is not risky like other games. It is a safe game. Lastly, I derive more pleasure and satisfaction from playing tennis than I do from any other game. So it is the game I like most to play.

I love trees because they are important source of life. They provide us with basic necessities of life. Trees maintain ecological balance. We get oxygen from trees. Trees give us rains. The school canteen is over-crowded. Some students who do not come to school with their home task done, copy from the note-books of other students. In fact, the recess break is welcomed by all.
34. My Favourite Book
Swami Ramkrishan Paramhans used to relate stories in his lectures. Now those stories have been collected and published in a book form. That book is my favourite one. I like this book very much. These stories depict philosophy in very simple language and in his own humorous style. All the stories are very interesting, humorous and moral. Every young boy and girl should read this book. The book reflects real life which we find reflected in the happenings of our own life.

The Vaidyas, homeopaths and allopathic doctors examined patients and gave free consultations. I gained a good knowledge about health.

I spend my Sundays quite comfortably. After morning routine, I wash my clothes and get them ready for the whole week. Then I enjoy myself seeing Television Programmes. At 1 p.m. I take lunch with my brothers and sisters. At 4 p.m. I take tea and complete the home work. In the evening I go out to enjoy the company of my friends.

On 19th October, 1991 at 2 a.m. an earthquake was felt in Delhi. The walls of the houses shook and the doors rattled violently. Although there was no damage in Delhi. Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand was badly affected. Most of the houses levelled to the ground, bridges broke and the roads blocked. A large number of people died and some were never traced.

With the speeding traffic, the roads are not safe places for children to play on. Children open ignore this fact and play various games on the roads. A parked vehicle on the road side is often used by the children to play hide and seek. They never recognise the fact that. there is no safety behind vehicles. Some of the children walk on the road as if the roads are their parks; and play cricket and run after the ball ignoring a speeding vehicle. Everyday after the final bell at 1:30 p.m. one can notice a big commotion outside the school premises, infront of the chatwallah shop. One can see a large number of youngsters crowding the shop. I strongly believe that there is no reason as to why the students should run after these vendors when we have such a good canteen in the premises. I take this opportunity to inform you that this food is highly contaminated by germs. Therefore, anyone who consumes it is likely to be afflicted with food poisoning which in extreme cases can be fatal. Always remember that health is your wealth.

Ans. (a) The Importance of Family Planning
Family Planning Programme in our country is aimed at checking the rapidly increasing population. Parents are advised to have two children, whether boys or girls. A small family has less problems hence it is always a happy family. The parents are able to provide better care to their children. Family planning also stresses on having a gap of 4 to 5 years between the first and the second births, so that the health of mother is not ruined. The government has a number of programmes aimed at providing better care to small families. When family planning is able to fulfil its mission, many problems like unemployment, over population, environmental pollution can be solved.
(b) Our School Garden
My school has a small garden. It is infront of the school building. It is a very lovely garden. Many plants and beautiful flowers grow in it. The roses are very beautiful to look at. Fruit trees also grow in it.
There is a gardener who looks after the garden. He keeps it very neat and clean. He waters the plants daily. He arranges the flower pots. The students and the teachers are very fond of it. Many students go their in the recess period. The teachers sit there in their vacant periods.

I live in a beautiful house in Nainital. Our house has four rooms. It has one big kitchen, one bathroom, one storeroom and one lavatory. It has marble floors. Its doors and windows are made of fine wood. Our house is very airy. Each room has doors, windows and ventilators. We get it whitewashed every year. There is a small lawn infront of the house.
