Can there be a forest without trees? Where are the trees in this poem, and where do they go?

(वे वृक्ष जो अभी तक अन्दर (घर के ) थे अब बाहर वनों में जा रहे हैं। वह जंगल जो इतने दिनों से खाली था, जहाँ कोई पक्षी नहीं बैठ सकता था, कोई कीट नहीं छिप सकता था, न सूर्य अपने किरणोंरूपी पैर पसार सकता था, वह जंगल जो इतनी रातों से खाली था सुबह होने तक पेड़ों से भर जाएगा। )

सारी रात जड़ें अपने आपको आँगन के फर्श की दरारों से छुड़वाने की कोशिश करती हैं। पत्तियाँ शीशे की ओर झुकती हैं, छोटी टहनियाँ अधिक परिश्रम के कारण सीधी हो जाती हैं। लम्बी मुड़ी हुई शाखाएँ छत के नीचे इस प्रकार रगड़ खा रही हैं जैसे अस्पताल के दरवाजों से निकला हुआ नया नया मुक्त हुआ, आधा भौंचक्का मरीज हो ।

मैं अन्दर बैठी हूँ, दरवाजे आँगन में खुले हैं, मैं लम्बी चिट्ठियाँ लिख रही हूँ जिनमें मैंने शायद ही अपने घर से जंगल के प्रस्थान की चर्चा की है। रात ताजी है, पूरा चन्द्रमा आकाश में अब भी चमक रहा है। अब भी पत्तियों और उक्त वनस्पति की सुगन्ध कमरों में एक आवाज की भाँति पहुँच रही है । मेरा सिर सरसराहटों से भरा हुआ है, जहाँ कि कल बिलकुल शान्ति होगी।

सुनो। काँच टूट रहा है। पेड़ रात में आगे की ओर लड़खड़ाते हुए जा रहे हैं। हवाएँ उनसे मिलने के लिए चल रही हैं। चाँद शीशे की भाँति टूट गया है, उसके टुकड़े अब सबसे लम्बे बलूत के ताज में चमक रहे हैं।

There are trees in the house of the poet which are moving out into the forest. The forest without trees looked empty and the birds and insects do not stay in it. In the absence of shadow no rays of the sun could pass.

The night remains busy in her work. The roots of the trees try to separate themselves from the cracks in the floor of the veranda. The leaves and twigs try to move and come out of the glass. The poet compares the happyness as well as struggle of the branches which are trying to come out under the roof of the poet’s house. They are as happy as the patient who have discharge from the clinic and are ready to move to their house.

The poet is much sad at the departure of the trees from the house. She is unable to mention it in her letter. The night has started with the shining of the moon in the sky. She can experience the smell and voice of the leaves and lichen. She is troubled at their whispering.

In the night the trees are struggling to come forward in the forest. Their encounter to come out from the house has broken the glass. In the night, the wind is working and it is rushing to welcome them. The moon too has broken into the pieces and its flash can be seen on the highest place on the oak as if it were in a crown.

Ans. The poem reflects conflict between man and nature. Man for his selfish motive, to decorate the interior of his house has emptied the forests and brought the trees inside the house. The trees feel suffocated for lack of space. In their hunger for light they break the glasses. Ultimately man realise and decides to move them out to their natural habitat and fill the forest again.

( कविता में मनुष्य और प्रकृति के बीच संघर्ष की प्रतिच्छाया है। मनुष्य अपने स्वार्थी उद्देश्य, घर की अन्दरूनी सजावट के लिए वृक्ष को घर के अन्दर ले आया और वनों को खाली कर दिया। स्थान की कमी के कारण वृक्षों ने घुटन का अनुभव किया। उनकी प्रकाश की भूख ने शीशों को तोड़ दिया। अन्ततः मनुष्य ने अनुभव और निर्णय किया कि उन्हें उनके प्राकृतिक वातावरण में पुनः स्थापित किया जाए और वन को पुन: भरा जाए ।)

(एडरीनी रिच अपनी कविता ‘दि ट्रोज’ द्वारा क्या सन्देश देना चाहती है ? )

Ans. The poet wants to make man aware of his merciless and selfish behaviour. Man should not empty the forest and bring the trees inside to decorate his interior. Imprisoned in the houses, they feel suffocated and restless. There is neither enough space nor light for their growth. So, we must take them out in the open and let them live happily in their natural habitat the forests.

(कवि मनुष्य को उसके निर्दयी और स्वार्थपूर्ण व्यवहार के प्रति सावधान करना चाहता है। मनुष्य को जंगल खाली नहीं करना चाहिए और वृक्षों को घर सजाने के लिए अन्दर नहीं लाना चाहिए। घर में बन्धक बनकर वे घुटन और अशान्त अनुभव करते हैं। वहाँ उनके विकास के लिए न काफी जगह होती है और न प्रकाश होता है । अत: हमें उनको खुले में लाना चाहिए और उनके प्राकृतिक वातावरण वनों में उन्हें प्रसन्नता से जीवित रहने देना चाहिए।)
