The fog…………. then moves on.

SUMMARY OF THE POEM

Carl Sandburg has given a very fine picture of fog. It is a natural phenomenon. The poet has compared its arrival just like a cat. The cat årrives silently, slowly, suddenly and gradually without making any kind of noise. It does not disturb us.
Then the poet tells that the fog does not interfere. It sits. It goes on falling and looking silently and vigilantly over the harbour and cities. It sits silently on its knees like the cat. After sometime it leaves us completely. Thus the activities in the nature go on perennially. Following this principle we must remain busy in our work. This is the landmark of success.

SHORT ANSWER TYPE QUESTIONS AND THEIR ANSWER

(Based on theme/fidea of the poem 30 to 40 words)
Q. 1. What metaphor has the poet used in the poem? Do you think it is appropriate?
Ans. The poet has used the metaphor of ‘cat’ for ‘fog’. Both have similar features. Both arrive and depart silently without making any sound. Their posture of sitting is the same, both sit on their haunches. You must have observed that a cat when sits at a place, looks all around, similarly the fog looks all around over the city and the harbour.
The poet has used a befitting metaphor in the poem ‘Fog’.
