SUMMARY OF THE POEM
A Duck felt bore in her nasty pond. She was surprised to see the Kangaroo hop over the fields and the water. She requested the Kangaroo to give him a ride on his back. They would go to the Dee, and the Jelly Bo Lee over the land and the sea. The Kangaroo feared that he might suffer from roomatiz because of her wet and cold feet. She bought four pairs of woollen socks and a cloak. Then the Kangaroo was ready to carry her. She sat at the end of his tail steadily and they hopped round the whole world three times.

बत्तख ने कंगारू से कहा, “कितने आश्चर्य की बात है! आप मैदान और जल पर कैसे उछलते हैं जैसे कि आप कभी रुकेंगे ही नहीं। इस मनहूस तालाब में मेरा जीवन अरुचिकर है। मेरी बहुत ज्यादा इच्छा है कि मैं इससे परे बाहर दुनिया में जाऊँ। काश ! मैं तुम्हारे समान उछल सकती।”

बत्तख ने कंगारू से कहा, “कृपया मुझे अपनी पीठ पर सवारी दो। मैं बिल्कुल हिले-डुले बिना बैठूंगी और सारे दिन काँ काँ करने के अतिरिक्त कुछ नहीं कहूँगी। हम डी नदी पर जाएँगे और जेली बोली बील पर जाएँगे। हम जमीन पर और समुद्र में यात्रा करेंगे। कृपया मुझे सवारी दीजिए, अवश्य दीजिए।”

कंगारू ने बत्तख से कहा, इस प्रस्ताव पर कुछ सोच-विचार करने की आवश्यकता है। यह सबकुछ शायद मेरे लिए सौभाग्य की बात हो। पर एक आपत्ति नजर आती है। यदि आप मुझे साहस से बोलने की अनुमति दे, तो वह आपत्ति यह है— तुम्हारे पैर बुरी तरह से गीले और ठंडे हैं और शायद मुझे ठंड से कष्ट उठाना पड़े।”

बत्तख़ ने कहा, “जैसे ही मैं चट्टान पर बैठी, मैंने इस विषय पर पूरी तरह से विचार किया। मैंने बढ़िया ऊनी चार जोड़े जुराबें खरीदीं जो मेरे चिरे हुए पैरों में बिल्कुल ठीक आती हैं। सर्दी को दूर भगाने के लिए मैंने एक चोगा खरीदा। और मैं अपने प्रिय कंगारू के सच्चे प्रेम के लिए प्रतिदिन एक सिगार पीऊँगी।”

कंगारू ने कहा, “मैं तैयार हूँ। हल्की पीली चाँदनी में, प्रिय बत्तख, तुम्हें मजबूती से जमकर बैठना है और मेरा संतुलन बनाए रखना है और मेरी दुम के बिल्कुल अंतिम सिरे पर बैठना है।” इस प्रकार उछलते हुए और छलाँग भरते हुए रवाना होकर उन्होंने पूरी पृथ्वी की तीन बार परिक्रमा की। बत्तख और कंगारू से बढ़कर कौन प्रसन्न हो सकता है?
